2011-2012 Competition Dates

LOCAL COMPETITION - Tuesday, November 8, 2011

The 60 teams advancing to Regional Competition will write the essay

in their local high school prior to the January competition.

Regional Competition - friday, January 13, 2012

The 20 teams advancing to State Competition will write the essay

in their local high school prior to the March competition.

STATE COMPETITION - THURSDAY & FRIDAY, March 15-16, 2012

National Competition - April 25-28, 2012, ALBUQUERQUE, NM

LOCAL COMPETITION - November 8, 2011

Local Competition is offered at numerous sites throughout the state with six  written tests in:

•  Art
•  Economics
•  Language & Literature
•  Mathematics
•  Music (includes audio excerpts)
• Science

All nin team members take the six written tests.

Each test has 50 multiple-choice questions, with the exception of Math at 35. There are a total of 285 questions.

Schools may register 2 or more teams, but only one team may advance to Regional Competition.

REGIONAL COMPETITION - January 13, 2012

at Various Sites - 60 Schools Advancing

Regional Competition consists of the six written tests, administered in the same manner and with the same scoring process as the Local Competition.  In addition, students engage in a 4-minute Prepared Speech, 1½ to 2 minute Impromptu Speech, Interview and Essay Writing.

Essay writing is done in the local high schools prior to the January competition.

STATE COMPETITION - March 15-16, 2012

20 Schools Advancing   

State Competition consists of the six written tests, administered in the same manner and with the same scoring process as the Local and Regional Competitions. In addition, students engage in a 4-minute Prepared Speech, 1½ to 2 minute Impromptu Speech, Interview, Essay Writing and Super Quiz, including both a written test and a relay.  The Super Quiz Relay is the only event open to the public. 

Essay writing is done in the local high schools prior to State Competition.

NATIONAL COMPETITION - April 25-28, 2012

ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO

States from around the nation will compete for the national title.
