2012-2013 Coaches' Workshop

for New & Veteran Coaches

Fall of 2012

Date & Time TBA

Principals -- Solicit a potential coach or staff member who would like to learn more about WIAD and reserve a spot for the workshop.

Schools are under no obligation to register a team at this time.

The workshop provides an excellent introduction to the Academic Decathlon -- a program for high school students with varying academic abilities.  Presenters are WIAD staff and successful Decathlon coaches from the school size divisions.

New schools and/or schools that have not participated in the program for a minimum of five years may be eligible for a curriculum supply grant, covering the majority of material costs for the first year.

Contact the WIAD Office at acadec@cesa7.k12.wi.us for more information.

Attendees answered the following question:

What do you feel was the most important thing you gained from the workshop?

  • Basic information to move forward -- as a new coach
  • Information regarding ACADEC competitions
  • I think most of us left with a "I can" attitude. I have no doubt about the win-win where advisors and the students are concerned.
  • In-person discussions/questions with experienced coaches.
  • Most importantly, I feel I gained confidence after hearing others' stories, and fully understanding the competition process. Also, I loved the suggestion that team members should have a bank of quotes memorized "in their back pocket" during the subjective aspect of competition.
  • I feel like I have a much better understanding of how the program works.
  • The realization that I can do this!
  • Opportunity to hear from experienced coaches.
  • insights from veterans
