| Small/Medium/Large School Online National Competitions offered by United States Academic Decathlon® April 12, 2011 -- Essay and Art April 28-29, 2011 -- All other Objective Tests
The online competition event took place simultaneously with the 30th annual National Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is the fourth year that Wisconsin has participated in USAD's "Virtual Competition." Decathletes individually tested in eight events, accumulating points for the team total. Speech, Interview and Super Quiz Relay components were not included.
Representing Wisconsin:
Marathon's third online appearance resulted in a 9th place finish amoung 21 small schools. The team accumulated 3 medals and 1 cash scholarship with an overall score of 22,207. Highest scorer on the team was Honor Student, Mandy Goetsch.
New Berlin Eisenhower's second online appearance resulted in a 2nd place finish among 15 medium schools. The team accumulated 20 medals and 4 cash scholarships with an overall score of 30,903. Highest scorer on the team was Honor Student, Tong Wang.
Wuakesha South's premier online appearance resulted in a 3rd place finish among 11 large schools. The team accumulated 5 medals and 1 cash scholarship with an overall score of 28,101. Highest scorer on the team was Varsity Student, Morgan Butler IV. For medals/scholarships collected by Marathon, New Berlin Eisenhower and Waukesha South team members, refer to online news release.
The goal of the Small/Medium/Large School Online Competition is to enhance learning, growth and recognition of Academic Decathlon to more schools and students. A state must have a current Academic Decathlon program. School enrollment of competing online schools: -- not to exceed 650 (grades 9-12) for a small school -- not to exceed 1,300 (grades 9-12) for a medium school -- enrollment of 1301 or higher for a large school Schools participating in the small/medium/large school competitions must not be the same team participating in the USAD® National Finals. Teams in each competing state will be selected and certified by the State Director. (The National Office will do the certification if a state does not have a State Director.) Date of the competition will be held the same days as the National competition. Number of events (8): Essay, Language & Literature, Art, Music, Math, Science/Social Science, Economics and Super Quiz.
