Competition Dates

 LOCAL COMPETITION – Tuesday, November 14, 2017

Team Registration is May thru October 13, 2017.           2017-2018 Registration Form w-Policy

Decathlon teams will test in:

•  Art  •  Literature •  Music — includes audio excerpts
•  Economics •  Mathematics •  Science                  •  Social science
  • All nine team members take the seven written tests.

Each test has 50 multiple-choice questions, with the exception of Math at 35.

There are a total of 335 questions.

Schools may register two or more teams, but only one team may advance to Regional Competition.

REGIONAL COMPETITION – Friday, January 12, 2018

From Local Competition, the 50 teams advancing to Regional Competition will write the essay prior to the January event. 

Essay Writing Test Window for Regional Competition is December 12 or 13, 2017. 
Teams will write the essay at their local high school.

Hosted at five sites (UW-Barron County, UW-Green Bay, UW-Waukesha, UW-Stevens Point, and UW-Whitewater), the full-day event consists of the seven written tests in addition to engaging in a 4-minute Prepared Speech, a 1 1/2 to 2-minute Impromptu Speech, an Interview, and Essay Writing. 

STATE COMPETITION – Thursday & Friday, March 8 & 9, 2018

The 20 teams advancing to State Competition will write the essay prior to the March event.

Essay Writing Test Window for State Competition is February 20 or 21, 2018.
Teams will write the essay at their local high school.

Hosted at the Glacier Canyon Conference Center/Wilderness Resort, Wisconsin Dells, State Competition consists of the seven written tests, as well as Essay, Speech and Interview, and concluding with the Super Quiz Relay — the only event open to the public.

NATIONAL COMPETITION – April 19-21, 2018    Flashing Red Bullet Frisco, Texas

Drawing teams from across the nation, each Overall State Champion will represent their state in a three-day event hosted by the United States Academic Decathlon®.
