ASSISTANT TEACHER OPENINGS – positions available in Manitowoc and Brown County.

CESA 7 Head Start is looking for reliable, caring individuals, who would enjoy working with 3 – 5 year old children and their families.  The position involves working in a classroom setting and involves serving as the assistant teacher in our Manitowoc Head Start center.  An Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or a CDA would be considered.  Duties will include:  Our school year runs September through May; enjoy summers off to spend with your family.

  1. Supports a safe, consistent, challenging, hands-on classroom learning environment.
  2. Practices methods of positive discipline, while assisting the teacher with child supervision.
  3. Assists with maintenance of classroom environment & material preparation.
  4. Works with individual, large, and small groups of children to help in facilitating learning activities.
  5. Assists with observational assessment procedures.
  6. Assists with the personal hygiene needs of the children.
  7. Supports a welcoming atmosphere to families.
  8. Maintains positive communication with families.
  9. Takes initiative in leading classroom activities, as needed, and substitutes for teacher in emergencies.
  10. Works cooperatively with the bus driver, parents, and other staff.

Qualifications:

  1. Has High School diploma, or GED/HSED.
  2. Has Early Childhood classes as defined for “Child Care Teacher” in HFS 46 Licensing Rules preferred (or willing to complete according to timeline of Head Start Personnel Policies).
  3. Has or is willing to complete Child Development Associate or begin course work toward Associates Degree in Early Childhood within one year.
  4. Must complete CPR and First Aid training within 3 months of employment.
  5. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  6. Has experience in pre-school setting (serving at-risk children) preferably Head Start.
  7. Has experience working with families of varying economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds preferred.
  8. Has experience in methods of positive discipline preferred.
  9. Has ability to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  10. Has ability to work some evening and weekend hours.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to pass a physical, TB test, and drug screen.
  2. Has ability to lift or maneuver up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

A standard work day requires the ability to: 1] primarily perform medium work—lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; 2] stand/walk for 1-4 hours; 3] sit 5-10 hours; 4] drive 1-3 hours; 5] use hands for repetitive simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling; 6] use feet for repetitive movement as in operation of foot controls (driving); 7] frequently bend, squat, twist body; and 8] occasionally climb.
