The CESA 7 Head Start/Early Head Start Policy Council is made up of current parents and community representatives.  The Policy Council provides for direct participation of parents in the planning, conducting, and administering of the Head Start/Early Head Start program in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards.  Members serve as a link between Head Start/Early Head Start, parent groups, and major public and private community groups.  The Policy Council meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm.

As a parent, you play one of the most important roles in Head Start/Early Head Start.  Without parent involvement Head Start wouldn’t exist.  Volunteer parents are the backbone of the Head Start structure.  There are many ways for you to be involved in Head Start/Early Head Start through volunteering.  You can volunteer in your child’s classroom, be a member of a committee or Policy Council, and volunteer to help in our office or by helping to prepare projects/activities from your home.  If you have additional ideas of ways that you would like to volunteer please contact your child’s teacher or family visitor.  We invite you to participate in any way that you feel comfortable.

If you are looking for an opportunity to have a positive effect on Head Start and Early Head Start children and families and want to express your thoughts and ideas, becoming a member of Policy Council is the perfect opportunity for you!

Being a member of the Policy Council is about improving life; your life, your child’s life and the lives of your whole family.  You have a voice and the more you learn, the more you can share.  Members of Policy Council represent all of the parents from their center and share the information from the Policy Council meetings at your center’s monthly parent meeting.  As a Policy Council member you will have input in:

  • Programming
  • Grant approval
  • Budget
  • Policies and procedures
  • Recruitment, selection and enrollment
  • Personnel recommendations

We don’t expect you to know everything about Policy Council.  We’ll teach you!  Policy Council meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.  We realize that you are busy with many family and work commitments so the meetings generally last about an hour and we provide refreshments.  Please consider being a member of this very important group.

Being an active parent volunteer means everyone wins; child, parent, family and community.
