As a professional in our edcuational system, you need to be aware of the potential danger of bloodborne pathogens. The Occupational Safetyand Helath Administration (OSHA) has issued a standard that can protect you from bloodborne pathogens. OSHA has created a standard that provides you and your school system a method of working together to substaintially reduce the risk of contracting a bloodborne disease on the job. The standard covers anyone who can reasonably aniticipate contact with blood or potentially infectious body fluids on the job. In an educational setting, the school system is required to identify the personnel whose job duties expose them to blood and potentially infectious body fluids. Not every edcuator is occupationally exposed to bloodborne pathogens while preforming his or her job. However, it is important for everyone in an educational setting to understand the dangers of infectin and the safe procedures to minimize risk.
