School Improvement Services provides leadership and assistance in current high quality assessment selection, design, development, use, and analysis and interpretation of assessment results. The CAI (Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction) Learning Network meets monthly for regional sharing and updates on timely assessment issues. The focus for quality assessment services is on assessment for learning as balanced with assessment of learning. The School Improvement Services department may be contacted for assistance in quality classroom assessment practices, progress assessment practices, and universal assessment practices, including common assessment design, construction and use. The SIS department also provides guidance to District Assessment Coordinators (DACs) and School Assessment Coordinators (SACs) through serving as a liaison with the Department of Public Instruction Office of Educational Accountability and disseminating current information regarding required state assessments. SIS staff can also provide guidance to school and district leadership teams in creating sound systems of assessment to inform instructional decisions.
