Trauma Sensitive Schools Series

Apr 14 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM

Virtual - Virtual

Sessions to be held virtually. Schools have a great ability to prevent and mitigate the impacts of traumatic exposure on our youth. By becoming a trauma sensitive school, schools can become a protective factor for these students and increase the social and emotional and academic skills of the entire school body. Building a trauma sensitive school is a process, not a product. Strategic and thoughtful implementation is critical to ensure successful implementation. The Trauma Sensitive Schools Series works with school teams throughout our region in a train the trainers model. We will meet 4 times per year to create and implement your TSS Action Plan which will integrate current school initiatives of PBIS, SEL, Restorative Practices, RtI. Recommended teams would include: school counselor(s), school social worker(s), administration, teacher(s). If you would like more information and an opportunity to discuss the needs of your district, please contact mkuhn@cesa7.org Session Title Session Description TSS Foundation Wednesday, September 16, 2020 8:30-2:30pm CESA 7 - Virtual Trauma Sensitive Schools (TSS) are founded on the core values of safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment delivered in a multi-level system of support to meet the needs of all students. TSS acknowledge the high prevalence of traumatic exposure for students, the importance of staff well-being and strives to meet the unique needs of all learners (Black, P., Cook, E. & Daniel, S. 2017). Participants will learn the foundation research on the impact trauma has on the developing brain and how TSS can implement programming to build resiliency in their students as they grow as lifelong learners. The 7 essential ingredients of trauma-sensitive school is a model of practice that supports implementation in the school setting. Participants learn about the prevalence of trauma and adversity in the lives of our students. We will discuss how this impacts students emotionally, socially, and developmentally and learn strategies to increase relationship and regulation in the classroom. We will cover the importance of maintaining caregiver strategies to combat compassion fatigue and secondary trauma. Participants will begin to develop their skills as TSS trainers and coaches for their schools. Building TSS Understanding and Self-Assessment of Current TSS Programming Wednesday, November 18, 2020 8:30-2:30pm CESA 7 - Virtual Many of the current initiatives in education align with the development of a TSS. Unfortunately many of these initiatives have been implemented in silos instead of a system approach of support. Participants will explore the current best practices in TSS programming such as PBIS, RtI, Restorative Practices, SEL, ACP, Zones of Regulations, soft skill development, mindfulness, and character education. Participants will develop an action plan to integrate this programming into an overall culture of support for students and staff. TSS Data Driven Decisions Wednesday, February 10, 2020 8:30-2:30pm CESA 7 - Virtual In a world of accountability, schools are charged with the responsibility of implementing programming that correlates with student academic, social and emotional success. Participants will explore current data trends and enhance their action plan to include SMART goals aimed at specific growth in data that has shown to be directly impacted by TSS initiatives such as academic growth, decrease in punitive disciplinary practices, increase in attendance, student and family engagement and access and equity. TSS Action Plan: Implementation and Evaluation Wednesday, April 14, 2020 8:30-2:30pm CESA 7 - Virtual Participants will evaluate their current state of developing a TSS. We will look at programming that is implemented universally as well as the development of multi-tiered systems of support. Participants will evaluate staff buy-in and the development of the TSS values of safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment school wide and within the classroom. Teams analyze data and the impact of implementation, create a report of findings for staff and district leaders. Participants will develop their TSS Action Plan for the 2021-22 school year with the goal of continuous improvement for your students and staff. https://login.myquickreg.com/register/event/event.cfm?eventid=26983

Early Learning Network

Apr 14 from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM

Virtual - Virtual

Early Learning Network Facilitator: Dr. Colleen Timm, CESA 7 Learning Services Director Description: CESA 7 supported educators in all subject areas and grade bands during the physical closure of schools in spring 2020 due to COVID 19. These content area PLCs and networks allowed area educators and CESA 7 staff to provide updates, share resources and collaborate. In an effort to continue to support educators, CESA 7 will continue to offer monthly Professional Learning Communities and networks for educators. This is a great opportunity to work through the PLC guiding questions: What do we expect our students to learn? (Goals/Expectations); How will we know they are learning? (Assessment); How will we respond when they don't learn? – (Intervention); How will we respond if they already know it? - (enrichment). The 2020-21 school year will likely be fluid in delivery and CESA 7 PLC’s and networks will continue to support educators throughout the year, especially in districts with stand-alone department members, with these one-time per month communities of practice. The CESA 7 Early Learning Network is designed to identify and address regional early learning needs, promote high-quality early learning programming and practices, as well as establish a forum for collaboration and idea exchange.
